beretta mini-cougar magazines

Like JohnStoner, I have two M9A1s with beretta mini-cougar magazines. Accuracy, reliability, and totally dependable in all weather- snow, rain, dry, heat and dust- whatever, NEVER a problem. About 4,500 rounds fired between the two of them. I’ve retired my Kimber 1911s, in favor of my Berettas. The Kimbers are strictly for loan WHEN TSHTF… The M9A1 is my "go to" handgun, and unlikely to change.

Yeah, you want two. One for each hand. That gives you forty-two shots before reloading, and two different direcions to shoot… Easy with a 9mm, but try it sometime with a pair of 9.5" Ruger Super Redhawks! I have, but I’ll stick with the M9A1’s, thanks… In all seriousness, the 9mm with the proper ammo, AND proper placement, is just as well going to take-out the trash, as my dusty Kimber Beretta 92 Magazine. I won’t change back- no reason to.

Nope, the M9A1 is the choice of the Marine Embassy Security Details, and my choice as well… So too, are the Mec-Gar 20rd Anti-Friction Coated magazines, and the Pro-Mag 33rd Beretta 21Magazines, though I load only 32 in mine… Both magazines fit both of my CX4 Storms perfectly…

rparrish, I use Gold Dots, both 124gr and 147gr, and know that whatever I hit, is going to go d-o-w-n… Having 21 rounds in either gun, makes for a warm feeling… I can’t really imagine a "real life" scenario for using 32rd magazines, but WHEN the SHTF, who knows? Having interchangable magazines with the CX4s, is a "good" thing…

To those who would try to compare the 1911 to the M9A1, I’d say, "beretta mini-cougar magazines, to yah, Buddy!" and "Why have only 11, with a Chip McCormick mag, when you can have 21?" Nah, that’d be petty. As I say, mine, my Kimber 1911s are now for loan-out when the SHTF… My best, I’m keeping for myself…

Rifle Scopes

Based on this I did the best I could to get my reticle into something. It is no secret that I have not been satisfied with the quality of the Rifle Scopes from China. The report I just received form one of my field testers at Fort Bragg on the latest CRS from China was not good. Therefore I have terminated any further production of the CRS from China.
I am working on having a 1×4 CRS made in South Korea and a 1×6 made in Florida. I was hoping Trijicon Rifle scopes would look at my reticle for their new TR24 Accupoint but as of now it seems they are not interested. S&B did not want it for their Short Dot and Swarovski was not interested in my reticle for their Z6. Any of these scopes would be a excellent package for this reticle.
I haven’t given up. I’m still trying to get my reticle into a good quality CRS.

Colt 1903 magazine

Your post shows a complete lack of knowledge with respect to the subject at hand A Colt is an entirely different animal from a semi-custom (which you seem to acknowledge) and other than for an intended application, there is no fair basis of comparison between the two. The semi custom is a superior package in every way, including features, workmanship, fit, finish, and service. Colt 1903 magazines OTOH makes a production pistol which is in an entirely different class, competing with the likes of Kimber, Springfield, Para, etc.

North of $1,000? that’s like saying that Minnesota is miles north of Texas. If you can find a semi custom USED for $1,000, let me know and I’ll be on it like a fly circling over your post. As for investing $300 more in a Colt and it will ? no different than that of a Wilson or Baer… I don’t know what word(s) you ommitted in your post, but you cannot dress up a Colt with $300 and expect a fair basis of comparison with a semi custom. A couple of years back, Yost-Bonitz did a package to modify a Colt (or SA) at or beyond the level of your basic semi custom. The price of the work was about 1,000 for their entry package. Adding the price of the donor Colt 1903 magazine, you have a pistol that meets/exceeds a semi custom for the price that meets/exceeds the pricepoint of a semi custom. Colts are excellent platforms for customization and the potential is only limited by the artisan who works it, but the factory Colt is no bargain substitute for what you get in the other classes of pistols.

As to the OP, I can understand your reason for selecting a Colt 1903 magazines, and your sentiments are shared by thousands who insist on Colt for their production AND their custom needs. There is no denying the heritage, and that commands a niche market others cannot touch. Like others have said, the Gold Cup was made for target shooting, and I think that would be your best bet. I would look into the Talo if you have the money

kpel308,

Got any salt?

The Fobus HK1 for my USPc .45 doesn’t hold the gun securely. Every other Fobus I’ve used held the gun positively against negative G; IOW, if you fell on your back, etc, the gun would stay put. A determined tug was necessary to release it.

Not this one; you can now ease the gun out with two fingers on the butt. Obviously, that’s a no-go. The first few days it was fine; perhaps something is wrong with it, after a couple of hundred presentations. Oh, well…

I ordered a Kramer this afternoon.

BTW, I’ve been toting for 28 years; 226 days till retirement. I’ve come full circle: from using "common" Leather Holsters as a rookie, to discovering custom stuff, then the Fobus, and now back to custom.

And THAT Pistol Magazine about the best summation of the situation I’ve ever read. Good post, Barry.

I realize I’m digging up a corpse that is better left buried, but all the "experts" on these boards just wear me out at times. I’ve carried a G19 in a Fobus GL2 professionally for over seven years. I’ve snagged it on door cowboy holster, car doors, etc., numerous times; it is still quite serviceable, thank you.

Walther p99 magazines

Recommended on another site was heavy lube and working the action dry cycle…I kid you not…Walther p99 magazine times: I did it to mine…quite a little workout…wear a glove.

Then fire a couple of Walther p99 magazines .

There’s alot of debate whether you should run only ball ammo in them.

Again, from elsewhere; important ammo considerations.

1. OAL of the round.

2. Shape of the round…HP must be as close to ball in shape as possible.

3. Feed ramp angle and polish; though this is only infrequently a problem.

Remington 95 gr FMJ seemed to meet approval, Winchester equivelent would most likely be fine; all else, especially anything not ball, simply must be tried out.

Though a good break-in is recommended before you start experimenting with the HP ammo.

Beretta 21 Magazine

I’ve had my Beretta 21Magazines (.40 S&W) for over 16 years and thousands of rounds. Only ever replaced the recoil spring as a preventative maintenance thing. Never a problem. Keeps firing every round and is as accurate as the day I bought it. I have spares (including a locking block) but have never needed to replace anything.

The more guns you have, the less rounds you’ll shoot through each, thereby reducing the possibility of breakage.

My favorite load for the Beretta 21Magazine is a 125gr lead TC bullet over 3.9 grains of 231. With this 25000 PSI load the Beretta should last forever. Just in case, I have another on standby.

Alot of people are preoccupied with +P+ and durability. My answer is handload and shoot reduced power loads. This way you get all the pleasure with none of the pain. If you ever have to use your gun defensively, I can guarrantee that you won’t notice the difference in noise or recoil

I spoke with him a while when I was registering me and my father for their class this April in Reno. Very cool guy with a good sense of humor. After watching the Magpul instructional video, its obvious the guy has some really great teaching skills and really enjoys doing it.

AK-47

Finally, has anyone ever had an issue with stock screws backing out/coming loose?
I don’t think loc-tite will work, with PLASTIC AK-47 stocks, so I was wondering if a tiny dab of clear silicone would work, to keep the screws from backing out? I have a buddy who has this problem. I know that ak-47 Holster company has always recommended to use a dab of clear silicone, on the threads of their holster screws, to act as a sort of Loc-Tite. The clear silicone has proven to work really well for me in that application.
Anyone else have a better idea, to use on the stock screws, in conjunction with plastic stocks????
Thanks for help with the above questions guys.

Eotech

Bluedog,

I appreciate you taking the time to post that. Now I know for sure the 3 components will not fit together on a 6920.

Mind you….."DEBORAH" and "JOHN" OVER THERE AT EOTECH CLAIMED THIS WOULD WORK.

But, I was on the phone with her and was suspicious of the validity of what I was hearing because she didn’t even know what the 517 looked like. (I had to explain to her that unlike the 512, the 517 was recessed to fit over an M4 handguard) When she had to relay my question to some guy named "John" in the background who never got on the phone, but told her "Yea, it’ll fit", I didn’t take it seriously! I WASN’T BORN YESTERDAY TO NOT BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE WHEN I’M DEALING WITH INEPT OR INCOHERENT PEOPLE!

Man am I PISSED WITH THAT COMPANIE’S LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Thanks again for your time and help.

Rifle Scopes

was looking at the GRSC CRS Rifle Scope myself and really like everything it offers! I don’t like that it’s a Millett with w/ a great reticule because of the Millett’s weight and less than stellar performance. Some of the things mentioned above (minus the ridiculous comparison to NCstar) including the fact that no more will be made in the foreseeable future, steered me away from it.

I’ve come across the new Burris Rifle Scopes XTR-14 and have decided on it. 1-4×24 illuminated horseshoe/dot 100-1000yds bdc calibrated for 5.56 62gr approx $550. I was very pleased with my Burris FFII for a $200 scope; FFII is their budget line while XTR is top of the line!

Aaron Zelman interviews Leonard Elliot
Our latest Talkin’ to America interview with Aaron Zelman interviewing firearms dealer Leonard Elliot, about his court win against the BATFE and its abuses.

Screening for Autism
I Screen, You Screen: The American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending that all children be screened for autism. They’ve only press-released their recommendations, however, so it’s difficult to assess them. Wouldn’t it be nice if professional organizations actually released their recommendations to their members before they did so to the public? It would make it so much easier for doctors to discuss the news stories with their patients. They’re releasing them today at their annual conference, and later in the November issue of their journal, which is not yet available online. (Though it may be in AAP member’s mailboxes.)

Part of any well child visit is screening for developmental delays, so one has to wonder what’s different about these recommendations. Are they setting lower limits for what’s abnormal so that those mild cases of autism (which some argue aren’t really autism or even disease) can be treated? If that’s the case, then don’t be surprised when a couple of years from now there’s a upward spike in the number of cases of autism. And don’t blame it on vaccines.

Statistics, Politics, and Medicine
Lies, Damned Lies, and, Well, You Know: The New York Times is parsing Rudy Guiliani’s prostate cancer statitistics:

“I had prostate cancer five, six years ago,” Mr. Giuliani, a Republican presidential candidate, said in a speech that has been turned into the radio commercial. “My chance of surviving prostate cancer — and, thank God, I was cured of it — in the United States? Eighty-two percent. My chance of surviving prostate cancer in England? Only 44 percent under socialized medicine.”

…. The Office for National Statistics in Britain says the five-year survival rate from prostate cancer there is 74.4 percent. And doctors also say it is unfair to compare prostate cancer statistics in Britain with those in the United States because in the United States the cancer is more likely to be diagnosed in its early stages.

“Certainly, if you intensively screen for prostate cancer, you will find early disease,” said Dr. Ian M. Thompson, chairman of the department of urology at the University of Texas at San Antonio. “And simply because you find it earlier, you will always have longer survival after the disease is diagnosed.”

One reason that prostate cancer is diagnosed earlier in the United States than in Britain is that they don’t screen for it at all in Britain - at least not at the expense of the NHS. (Which is one of the reasons they spend less on healthcare than the United States. They don’t indulge in as much screening as we do.) At any rate, his statistics don’t appear to be all that far off the mark, at least for men in their 80’s. But even the NHS admits that prostate cancer survival is increasing because more people are starting to have their PSA checked - meaning that slow growing early cancers are being added to the mix, just as happens here in the US. As it happens, even back in 2002, the five year survival rate for prostate cancer in the US was 99% - still a much better figure than the UK’s 71%.

But, as the astute bloggers point out, prostate cancer isn’t the best example of the benefits of screening. Prostate cancer is, in most cases, slow growing - and although our screening policies detect many early cancers that would never do harm if left undetected, we also end up spending a lot more money treating these same cancers. When given the choice between watchful waiting and removal, many choose removal. (Another reason why we end up spending more and being less healthy in surveys like this.)

But the Astutes take a closer look at cancer in England and cancer in the US:

See this report, entitled “Cancer Survival Rates Improving Across Europe, But Still Lagging Behind United States” (and remember that England’s rates, not broken out, are among the worst in Europe).

Taking recent figures, female five-year cancer survival rates are 62.9 per cent on average in the US and 52.7 per cent in England. To compare America’s privately insured with England’s NHS patients, you’d need to bump up that American survival rate a bit (the uninsured most likely have lower survival rates–otherwise why worry about universal coverage) and bump down the English one (because some Brits have private insurance, and so buy better care).

Nationally, American cancer survival rates are significantly better. Certainly not by the 40-point margin Giuliani implied, but still.

Looks like the truth is somewhere between Rudy and the Times.

Trijicon

The eye relief on this scope is in my opinion the largest benefit. I shoot NTC and the smaller FOV (19.3 at 100) makes the BAC real easy to use. I also find the smaller FOV, eye relief, and overall small diameter of this ACOG to be REAL nice in keeping the sight picture concise and my Trijicon Trijiconsurroundings unobstructed. Comparatively, the TA11 now seems WAY too heavy and the TA31 feels like my eyeball has to molest the scope from 1.5" out to maintain a sight picture. The small overall size and extra 0.4" of eye relief makes all the difference in the world. I’m now spoiled.

Glock Magazines

I was recertifying as a Glock Magazines armorer today. The regional LE rep and the instructor were discussing the 4th Generation pistols with interchangeable palmswells, I assume similar to XDM or M&P. One was saying to the other that the Feds and DevGRU had samples.

I have no other information. I was in a hurry after class, but I’m going to call the LE regional rep back this week. If I heard correctly I’m going to hold off on any more Glock Magazine purchases (whatever; I have like 9).

UPDATE:

Just got off the phone with him.

He said that the Navy placed the bid but have loaned HRT some samples. There are about 80 in existance. The bid called for a modular grip (not palmswells) and a new highly aggressive stippling to be used in maritime conditions or worn with Glock Magazine. I asked if this new gun was going to be release to the public and/or LE. He would not commit.

So in other words, something’s cooking. What or when exactly? Who knows.
